In an increasingly complex world facing a crisis of values, La Salle – Ramon Llull University offers a unique Philosophy degree in Catalonia, inspired by the Anglo-Saxon educational system of the Great Books Seminars. This innovative program explores the legacy of great thinkers to address today’s ethical, social, and technological challenges.

Philosophy has never been so essential than it is today. At La Salle-URL, we equip you not only to understand the world, but also to become an agent of change and transformation. To support this mission, we collaborate with the University’s Business Council to subsidize a percentage of the degree’s cost. This initiative makes it more accessible for talented young individuals with knowledge and skills to study with us, regardless of their economic, familial, or geographical background.

What is the methodology of the Great Books Seminars based on?

The Great Books Seminar methodology is characterized by intimate, interactive learning environments featuring small classes organized as reading and discussion seminars. In each session, students and professors collaboratively engage with significant philosophical and literary works -both historical and contemporary- through close reading, critical analysis, and substantive dialogue.

Why is our degree in Philosophy unique?

  • Innovative methodology: Our program features a unique approach in Catalonia, utilizing reading and debate seminars in small groups of no more than 15 people. Topics are prepared in advance to ensure dynamic and enriching discussions, addressing the great challenges of society.
  • Transformative vision: you will study the ideas that have shaped our civilization, develop your own rigorous and independent thinking, and learn to apply it in contemporary contexts.
  • Personalization: In each subject, students craft their writings based on personal perspectives on both classical and contemporary philosophical themes. By the end of each course, you will have explored a major philosophical question related to the readings, developed your own stance, and defended it before your peers.
  • Argumentation skills: Through critical analysis and debate, you will acquire tools to question, propose, and lead new ideas in a society that demands ethical and humanistic solutions.
  • Interdisciplinary approach: We explore the intersection of philosophy with other fields such as technology, culture, and applied ethics.
  • Intensive seminars in key cities: Participate in specialized seminars in historic cities like Athens or Florence. Work with experts on classical works and explore locations of significant philosophical, cultural, and historical importance.
  • Distinguished faculty: Learn from a faculty of nationally and internationally recognized professors. Engage directly with them in sessions of profound philosophical reflection.
